OXO's brand promise is looking at everyday objects and activities and seeing ways to make things simpler, easier, more thoughtfully designed–better. To deliver on this the team looked for innovative ways to alleviate the main pain point around using a Shower Caddy. The shower is a difficult place to keep clean. The shower caddy is often the most neglected device in that space. The removable panels provided simple pain-free maintenance for the user. Shampoo and body wash bottles can be difficult to use fully, the holes in the shelf panels provided an opportunity for some bottles to stand upside down reliably. A range of hooks and hang-able areas on the bottom shelf provided the opportunity for the consumer to customize their experience.
A shower caddy is an organizational tool meant to help solve the clutter problem in the shower. Most caddies on the market do that. They ignore the secondary pain points that come along with the fixture.
First, not all products are the same shape and height. Second, the usage of the package changes over time. Third, the shower and the items in it need to be easily cleaned often. These are the insights that made the OXO shower caddy a game-changer.
The caddy is constructed of stock gauge wire. The shelves are injection molded polycarbonate. The slight green tint is meant to reflect the shower glass door. Providing a link to the space in a subtle yet thoughtfully designed way.
The utility of removable trays gave the user the ability to easily clean the caddy by simply running the trays through the dishwasher.
The slots in the trays provided drainage without creating a surface that was unstable for the product.
The larger circular holes provided a solution for end-of-life use for shampoo and body wash bottles. Allowing them to sit inverted.
